Urban Sketch of MIL resting
Day Eighty-One of Sketching People
Day 81 of my #Kick365 sketching challenge to draw people in ink and watercolour. Mellow afternoon with sketching a family member.
Urban Sketching a Family Member
It was a busy couple of days in Manchester, running around and seeing people. But I spent one afternoon in the conservatory of my MIL’s house, and while she relaxed and listened to music, I had a chance to sketch her.
She said I made her look old, and didn’t want to photograph it. Fair enough!
This is the reason I like treating my sketchbook like a private journal. Nobody needs to know how I see them, or have decided how to sketch them. Often I sketch my version of reality which isn’t always what I see in front of me, but that the freedom you have as an artist. Your Book. Your Pen. Your Truth.
In my defence, my MIL is in her eighties, and I think she looks wonderful, and I captured that succinctly. But we never see ourselves how others see us, do we?
