Urban Sketching People in Tavira with poetic observations and Portrait Practice (Day 129)

Day 129 of sketching people in ink and watercolour. Today I sketched a couple of people in Tavira and added some poetic reportage to these otherwise uneventful scenes. I also did a bit of portrait practice back at home.

Urban Sketching Sunburned People at the Café (Day 128)

My New Sketch Board / Travel Easel for Urban Sketching on Location

Here’s my new urban sketching set up when drawing and painting on location. It includes a DIY sketchbook board I made out of recycled card and I clip my palette, water containers, pens and watercolour brushes to it. It works really well for small to large sketchbooks. Gel Printing my Sketchbook Cover

My go-to watercolour sketchbook is the Hahnemühle 200gsm cold pressed paper with a fine texture, which is the ideal weight of paper for ink and wash. It comes with a grey cover, so added a bit of personality to my May 2026 books with some handprinted abstract paper I created with my Gelli Arts plate.
