Day One Hundred and Forty-Five of Sketching People

Continuing on with day 145 of my #Kick365 sketching challenge to draw people in ink and watercolour. I attended the Monday afternoon session of Drawing is Free speed sketching on Zoom.

Speed Sketching with a Limited Colour Palette

I planned on using my new colour triad d’jour, but got distracted with other colours in my palette, and ended up dipping into Opera Pink too. It’s been quite a few days since I sketched anything, just so busy and distracted with the construction going on at home, so I’ve been exploring Colour Triads instead, and they can get pretty addictive.

Colour Harmony

I did keep a certain amount of colour harmony in tonight’s sketches though. Using Manganese Blue Hue, Indian Red, and Buff Titanium. But I also used Opera Pink and some Neutral Tint. I basically combined these two colours Triads together.

But then I wanted to keep painting, so I mixed a bright orange from Opera Pink and New Gamboge, which really compliments the blue I was using.

Here’s a link to my reference pages for the colour Triads I’ve created.

Fountain Pen

I used tonight’s Drawing is Free speed sketching session to give my Noodler’s Ahab Flex Nib pen a workout. I used it for most of the session, before I remembers it was a flex nib, and I could vary my line width.
