Urban Sketch of Man at the Cafe
Day One Hundred and Forty of Sketching People
Continuing on with day 140 of my #Kick365 sketching challenge to draw people in ink and watercolour. Morning sketch of a man at the cafe with a little bit of poetic reportage.
Urban Sketches at a Café in the Morning
I had time before my physio appointment today so popped into the neighbouring café for a coffee and water. Spotted this man, with his empty beer bottles lined up. He looked hot and flustered, and all I could think was – that beer is not going to hydrate you buddy!

Urban Sketch Poem
Now here he sits, a tale to tell,
A hydration seeking, where it's hot as hell.
His cheeks are flush, from ear to ear,
It's "hello thirst", but "goodbye beer".
Fountain Pen Challenges
I’ve been cycling through different pens to see which ones will work the best, to help me determine which fountain pens to take to Toulouse.
I’ve been having trouble with most of my fountain pens not flowing properly at the moment, I think it may have something to do with the heat. It’s really frustrating when the ink flow is so unreliable, especially when I only have a few pens with me. I really like my TWISBI pens, but they’re becoming very troublesome. Maybe they just need a little break for the summer?
I sketched this man with a Sailor Fude nib pen, and I like the line variation it gives – plus it flowed ok. So maybe this pen is a contender to travel with me.
