Mood Board for your Colour Preferences

I’m not much of a mood board person, but in her Watercolour course, Liz Steel suggested putting together a colour wheel of my colour preferences. I couldn’t start is quick enough.

I trolled through my magazines and cut out the colours that resonated with me. The concept behind this is that if you cut out all the colours that you have an emotional reaction too, then they’re the colours you should be using or be able to create with the watercolours in your palette.

Once I’d collected and stuck down all my bits of paper onto my colour wheel mood board, I realised that my watercolour palette colour selection is where it needed to be. I can make all of these colours – or a close approximation of these colours, with the watercolours I have in my palette.

If you’re not sure what preference you have for colours, this is a really enjoyable exercise to do.

There’s no doubt in my mind – I love bright colours!

Liz Steel’s Watercolour Course

Liz’s watercolour course contains so much useful information for beginner and seasoned urban sketchers. Each time I’ve done a run-through of this course, I’ve picked up new information.

It seems like you can only take in the information that is right for you at the stage you’re at with your watercolour journey of discovery. Some information and tips just fly right over your head when you first encounter them, but make complete sense the next time you do the course.

When you sign up to one of Liz’s courses, you get lifetime access, and the opportunity to do a live run through periodically. The information is presented in bite-sized chunks, and there’s pdf’s to download for each lesson. And each lesson is taught in a video, and then in words and illustrations, so no matter what your learning style, you’ll be able to absorb the lessons Liz is covering.
