Speed Sketching with Pencils4Tea
Speed sketching session tonight hosted by Pencils4Tea, where every pose is the length of a music track. Tonights music theme was “walking” and all the songs had a related word in the title. I nice mix of music. But it’s been a couple of weeks since I attended a speed sketching session, so the first couple of sketches were a bit suspect. But I soon got into the groove.
These are my favourite portraits from tonight:

Ink Lines and Tonal Shading with Spot Colour
I really like the sketching style of ink lines and tonal shading, with a splash of vivid spot colour. For these sketches tonight I used pink and turquoise water-based Tombows, and a gold ochre brush pen I’ve had for a while but haven’t used it, and now I love it. Such a nice warm colour.
The only challenge with the Tombow tonal shading is that I end up with hard edges, and sometimes I’d like the grey to blend in more. But when time is short it’s difficult to get to precise with the lines, shading, and spot colour, because before you know it, the next track is playing and you have to start sketching again.
