Urban Sketch of People waiting to board a ferry
Day One Hundred and Sixty-Four and Sixty-Five of Sketching People
Continuing on with day 164-165 of my #Kick365 sketching challenge to draw people in ink and watercolour, with a collection of people sketches during our time on Halki.
Urban Sketching People during our stay on Halki
Of all the Greek locations we visited, we stayed in Halki the longest. We were here for ten nights, and other than eating, drinking, and snorkelling, and a couple of boat trips we had plenty of time on our hands, so I got a little bit of sketching done. It was such a tranquil location, it was by far my favourite place to stay.
Urban Sketches of People Relaxing on their Patios
We were staying in an apartment which has a small patio overlooking the marina. From this vantage point we could watch the ferries and boats coming and going, but I also got to sketch MOH and our neighbours while they were relaxing.
I managed a couple of sneaky sketches of our immediate neighbour. Our visits overlapped by a few days and we got to chat to them quite a bit. They’d been here for three weeks, and one of the ladies had read 17 paperbacks. That was a connection and memory worth capturing in my travel sketchbook.
A few doors down was a group of women on holiday, that spent a lot of time hanging out on their patio.
Finally I captured MOH relaxing on the sun bed and watching the yacht crews faffing about on their boats. Every now and then he’d shout at the Turks that were throwing their cigarette butts into the water — I can’t believe that people who work and live on yachts don’t have a better respect and appreciation of the water.
I like the perspective of this sketch, and it’s good to get some hand sketching practice in. I do love drawing them.
Urban Sketching People Lining up for the Bakery in Halki
There was a long wait for the bakery – I think it may have been the only one in town. Most of what they sold were savoury options, and I was lining up for spinach pies.
I tried a bit of harmonious colour management in this sketch, and used blue for the clothes of the people standing in front of the blue window, and green clothes for the people standing in front of the green sign.
Urban Sketch of People Lining up to board the Ferry to Rhodes
We got used to watching the Aegean Gem ferry people to and from Rhodes, and one day I was in the harbour area when there was a crowd of people waiting to board, so I sketched the scene quickly and added watercolour when I got back to our apartment.
Urban Sketch of my Private Chef in Action on Halki
Another sketch of MOH, this time hard at work as my private chef. I had to sketch quickly because he was only still while he was working the omelette. Love those bright red shorts as a focal point. We’d learnt some Greek from our neighbours and I added it to this sketch, but probably got the spelling wrong. I think it meant Good, and Very Good.
While we were staying on Halki we had a day trip to Tilos, and I sketched some more people that day on the ferry and on the island.
