Day One Hundred and Nine of Sketching People

Day 109 of my #Kick365 sketching challenge to draw people in ink and watercolour. Back sketching locally after falling over and breaking my hand! Luckily it’s not my sketching hand. I wish I’d had my sketchbook during the 8 hours of being in Emergency waiting to be seen. But I made sure to have it with me the next day when I went back to see the orthopaedic consultant about surgery.

Urban Sketches in the Waiting Room

Got to outpatients early, so not many people to sketch, but I couldn’t resist this stripy top.

I wanted to keep this sketch quite sparse and sterile looking, so used mainly monochromatic colours, and didn’t paint add the skin tone. Then I added a background of a blue and purple mix that reminds me of a bruise using Cobalt Turquoise Light and Quin Rose.

After outpatients, I went down to Xray and sketch a few of my fellow waiters. Being in a hospital is an extreme exercise in patience. Also, it’s the first time being in a Portuguese hospital so I had no idea what the process and procedure is. There’s a robust ticketing system, lots of different queues, and plenty of waiting. So grateful for having a sketchbook.

Added a block of colour to unify the figures, because the page looked a bit sparse without it.
